Small White Arcs

The most recent approach to the Arcs series, with several differences. The finish is powder coated glossy white, rather than the polished aluminum that all of the previous pieces have been rendered in. Also, in all of the previous pieces I strove to make the rotating elements at almost if not exactly the same lengths and here I’m experimenting with three noticeably different sizes of moving elements. I’m very pleased with the end result.

Three Large Arcs

A large outdoor version of the Arcs design, pictured here in the Octavia show. This piece is on display in the Lakeview section of New Orleans.

Three Small Arcs

This version of Arcs was designed expressly for indoor, manually propelled movement. There are several different approaches we can take to how any piece is balanced based on how it will move - outdoor wind, indoor fans, indoor turntables or manually movement. In this case, for manual, the innermost piece is as heavy as I can possibly make it so when it’s given a push it has lots of momentum behind the weight. This piece is now in Palm Beach Fl.

Additionally, in this same design, a commission for an outdoor version on a tall stand resides in Sanibel Island FL.

Gulf Waves

The very last piece completed before the Octavia Show. While I’m often driven to wring as much movement out of piece, this one was very slow and gentle, intentionally.

Arcs

The first piece I completed with curved metal, after many false starts and iterations. It started as two arcs grew to four and I finally settled on three because of very natural movement and balancing.

The original Three Arcs has a happy home in Chicago.
